The Bravado, The Optimism, The Spanning of Two Continents

Monocle'ın 6.sayısının "Property Prospectus" köşesinde Saul Taylor, Cihangir'i incelemiş; Neresidir, nasıl gidilir, kimler yaşar, nereden alışveriş yapılır, ne yenir ne içilir ve emlak sahibi olma imkanları nedir gitmiş, gezmiş ve yazmış. Derginin "Do You Recognise This Nation" başlıklı bu sayısında okunacak pek çok şey var ama ben burada sadece Saul Taylor'un yazısından yorum yapmadan kısa bir alıntı yapmak istiyorum;

"During the reign of Murad IV (1612-1640), Hezarfen Ahmet Çelebi is reputed to have flown 6 km across the Bosphorus from the top of the Galata Tower to land on the slopes of Üsküdar on the Anatolian side. There is something very Turkish about this story -the bravado, the optimism, the spanning of two continents -so much so that in the end no one really cares about its accuracy. It is this sense of "can do" that is currently defining Istanbul and Turkish mindset in general."
